In a live performance of Fubuki Daiko you not only hear and see the music, you FEEL it vibrating down to your innermost core.
Fubuki Daiko is Winnipeg's premiere Japanese taiko drumming ensemble. They are veterans of the outdoor stage at the Fringe Festival, but this is their first major full-length indoor show.
This new all-original production is a stunning, exhilarating spectacle from its opening dramatic moments to its breathtaking conclusion. It's visceral and dynamic. The five musicians hit their enormous drums with brute force and keep it all together with arresting choreography.
You may be wondering, what do Godzilla and Led Zeppelin have to do with it? The idea is that while the musicians cherish their traditional roots in Japanese taiko, they also embrace new influences from their North American upbringing. So expect a piece influenced by Battlestar Galactica and another inspired by Benny Goodman (the connection being that "big band" is kinda like "big bang," right?). And Japanese rap, anyone?
Add to that Hiroshi Koshiyama's endearing sense of humour and Naomi Guilbert's winning smile and impressive muscles.
If you've never seen them, go to this.
