Rick Fenton has been making a living in the music business for 30 odd years. Right now he is the Artistic Director for the Winnipeg BBQ and Blues
which runs August 17-19. He's also Executive Director of the Western Canadian Music
Alliance/BreakOut West Festival
and a guitar player in the pub rock band The Angry Dads
(combined age nearly 200 years!).Rick told SCENE that he has one book in each hand:
"The Looming Tower" by Lawrence Wright (Knopf)
I've got two books on the go right now. One is The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11
by Lawrence Wright
. Mr. Wright is an amazing journalist who has pieced together the history of Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden in fantastic detail.
His insights into what led up to the 9/11 attacks are never speculative and incredibly informative. They are also quite frankly scary when it comes to the effects of mismanagement by law enforcement and strange coincidence.
"Game of Thrones" by George R.R.Martin (Bantam Spectra)
The other book that I can't put down is Game of Thrones
by George R. R. Martin
. This is a true guilty pleasure of intrigue, fantasy and Machiavellian
political manoeuvring. Our whole family is reading it right now. It takes me back to reading J.R.R.Tolkien
as a kid. I'm unable to put it down... true escapism resulting in "lights on at 3 a.m."
