The life of a conductor involves lots of reading - scores, that is. In his sixth season as conductor of the
Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra,
Alexander Mickelthwate leads the WSO through most of their major concerts each season, including the
New Music Festival which kicked off Saturday January 28.
Mickelthwate's
passion for music has roots in his German upbringing where many of the
composers were masters of the European tradition. His own musical
palette is broad and so he is a perfect fit for the WSO's New Music
Festival.
SCENE wondered whether the maestro ever uses his
conducting baton as a bookmark. And what that book might be. No
surprise, he's the second celebrity to recommend Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.
