Host Mitch Peacock (CBC)
Comfortable in the studio, the stadium or the arena, Mitch loves being "in the game."
Mitch Peacock joined CBC News Winnipeg after spending five years as an anchor on the Fox Soccer Report. A veteran of more than a decade-and-a-half in broadcasting, Mitch has built on his recent efforts covering the Manitoba scene by working as a reporter on Hockey Night In Canada, co-hosting CBC's 2010 FIFA World Cup Coverage, serving in a variety of roles on the Network's Major League Soccer broadcasts, and doing play-by-play of the 2010 IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championship and Diamond League Athletics.
Before starting in broadcasting Mitch played collegiate soccer at SAIT in Calgary. He also played university hockey while attending Queen's in Kingston.
SCENE wants to know what Manitoban personalities like Mitch are reading. We asked him which book stands out as being a good read, something to 'bookmark'. Mitch told us that for him it was A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle.
A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle is a book I enjoyed reading and find myself going back to again and again. In part because I find it outlines spiritual concepts in a way I can understand and relate to. Also, because it's written in a way that allows you to read and reflect on a idea without having to read the book again from front-to-back. The biggest thing I've taken from the book and apply in my daily life is an awareness that we are not our thoughts, but the observer of them. I find the idea of stillness and oneness with the world liberating and while I know Tolle isn't the creator of these notions I find he expresses them in a way that speaks to me.
In his seminal and revolutionary book, A New Earth, Eckhart Tolle shows us that on the brink of what could seem a threat for the survival of our planet, a momentous event in human evolution is actually now occurring as a new consciousness on earth is beginning to emerge even as the old dissolves. The required leap is the challenge and the opportunity of our times: Awakened consciousness takes over from the ego and begins to run your life.
