Alison Gillmor, Niigonwedom Sinclair, Paul Jordan and Vincent Ho with CBC host Keran Sanders at the final debate of Manitoba Reads.
On September 24, four passionate book lovers debated four Manitoba books down to a single title -- the book that all Manitobans are invited to read.
The final book was chosen through three rounds of debate, and three rounds of voting.
And the winner is Gabrielle Roy's Where Nests the Water Hen, defended by Niigon Sinclair.
The book that came in a very close second was The Life of Helen Betty Osborne, written by David Alexander Robertson, and defended by Vincent Ho. This book was also voted #1 in our Audience Choice poll.
Alison Gillmor went to battle for Reading by Lightning by Joan Thomas and Paul Jordan got behind Bandit by Wayne Tefs
The lively debate -- and live recording -- was the finale of the THIN AIR Winnipeg International Writers Festival (at the Manitoba Theatre for Young People).
CBC's Keran Sanders hosted the night and the results were broadcast September 25 on the Weekend Morning Show.
Thanks to all the fiery debaters, the great Mantioban authors, and our partners THIN AIR and McNally Robinson Booksellers.
Check out the initial long list of 16 for this year's Manitoba Reads.
Now get out there and read some Manitoba books!
