Gimli writer David Arnason's novel Baldour's Song: A Saga has been nominated for a Manitoba Book Award in two categories: The Carol Shields Winnipeg Book Award and The Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction.
Baldour's Song: A Saga is written in the style of a family saga.
In David's words, a saga "...is like a novel. The family sagas were written from about the late 1100's to the 1400's...and they usually center around one family...it tells the story of the people in that family and tells the story of a family and their various conflicts, their meetings - sometimes with mythological characters, sometimes battles with other people, but it was the first kind of modern writing."
