THE GO-TO-GIRL
Protect tigers in Asia. Check. Buy bees for a family in South America. Check. Send Guatemalan children to school. Check. Help disabled children in Kenya. Check. Nobel peace prize? Stay tuned.
When Kyla Brophy immigrated to Canada from Johannesburg, South Africa, she felt like she'd arrived in paradise. It didn't take her long to realize how lucky she was, and feel the need to give something back. Since her arrival she has tirelessly tackled social and environmental issues, and people are starting to take notice.
Instead of buying birthday gifts, she adopts endangered tigers in Asia under her friend's names. With big support from those same friends, Kyla raises money to buy bees for a South American family so they can start their own business. She's sent Guatemalan children to school, helped disabled children in Kenya dealing with abuse, and a 40-hour famine to raise money and awareness of conditions in Africa only leaves her and her team hungry to help some more. This girl knows that even the smallest of actions can add up to big change.
But is anyone in her school really gonna show up for a country-style hoe-down?
