Island poems

Mainstreet stopped by the Guild in Charlottetown as some artists and poets were taking in a new show . Three groups came together to collaborate on Island Poems. Poets were given a framework of styles they could use in their writing and artists responded to those poems in a variety of ways. Here are some of the creative minds behind Island Poems. Becka Viau from This Town is Small, Donnallee Downe with Peake Street Studios, Poet John Mackenzie and artist Gail Hodder.

Wayde Lewis

Mi'Kmaq Legends

Tranforming the Micmaq creation legends into a multi-media work of art and music. Composer Sean Ferris ,the  Alan Dowling Jazz Quartet, members of the PEI Symphony Orchestra and Symphony Nova Scotia along with traditional drum group Mi'Kmaq Thunder, performed a multi-layered program that includes poetry, dance and theatre. Julie Pellissier-Lush and Dan Knockwood are both artists involved with the show and they stopped by our studio.

Young Politics

 Voting among 18 to 24 year olds was the lowest of any demographic in the last federal election. Meet four young Islanders who not only vote but are passionately involved in politics . Corey Stevenson teaches in Montague and is with PEI's youth liberal association. Camille Labchuk is the deputy director of communications for the green party - we reached her in Ottawa, Kate McKenna is with the Conservative Party and Patrick Brunet is woring on the NDP campaign in Charlottetown. Karen Mair spoke with them on Mainstreet.
