Italy's Denise Karbon won a women's World Cup giant slalom Saturday in Panorama, B.C., for her second consecutive victory in the discipline.

Karbon, who finished 15th in last year's giant slalom standings, posted a two-run combined time of two minutes, 42.71 seconds Saturday.

Austria's Elisabeth Gorgl finished second in 2:43.13, while Italy's Manuela Moelgg was third in 2:43.22.

Defending World Cup giant slalom and overall champion Nicole Hosp of Austria finished 16th in 2:45.03.

Montreal's Emilie Desforges, Emily Brydon of Fernie, B.C., Britt Janyk of Whistler, B.C., and Marie-Pier Prefontaine of St. Sauveur, Que., failed to qualify for the second run.

"I am mad at myself," Brydon said. "I should have qualified for the second run and I didn’t do that. It is an opportunity to race at home in front of this amazing crowd and we did not take advantage of that today."
