Ricky Davis tried to fatten up his statistics, but it made him lighter in the wallet.
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard was fined an undisclosed amount by the team for trying to pad his stats during a 122-95 win over the Utah Jazz on Sunday.
Needing just one more rebound to pick up his first career triple-double, Davis missed a shot at his own net in the game's final seconds hoping to grab his 10th rebound of the game.
NBA rules, however, do not credit a player with a rebound in that situation.
Cleveland head coach Keith Smart said the embarrassment was punishment enough, but the club decided to impose the fine anyway.
Davis, the team's leading scorer with 20.7 points per game, finished with 28 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds in Sunday's victory.
