The Township of Greater Madawaska is asking the province for $2 million in disaster relief assistance after last month's macroburst felled hundreds of thousands of trees and damaged property.
The township voted Friday to ask the minister of municipal affairs and housing to declare a disaster, said Jim Lynch, the township's disaster relief co-ordinator.
It's asking for about $2 million in relief — $1.3 million for private property and $700,000 for public property.
The July 23 macroburst descended on parts of Calabogie, Norway Lake and White Lake.
About 40 homes and cottages were heavily damaged.
