Police in west Quebec have identified the Ottawa man who died after flipping his all-terrain vehicle on a trail north of Gatineau.

Vincent Bertrand, 34, was riding his ATV with three others in l'Ange-Gardien, Que., when he flipped the machine.

The man was then pinned underneath more than 26 kilometres into the woods. Police add it took about two hours for first-aid responders to reach him.

Police say "it is impossible to accurately determine the cause" of the crash.

There was a combination of factors, they add, but speed and alcohol are not included in those.
