Charges are pending after a Friday morning crash between a pickup truck and a school bus on Highway 31 near Winchester, south of Ottawa.

Ontario Provincial Police collision investigators probed the serious crash in the 2000 block of Highway 31.

Police said a school bus was stopped in front of a home facing northbound when it was rear-ended by a pickup truck just after 7 a.m. Friday. The bus driver was not injured, nor was the lone student on board.

The 23-year-old truck driver was airlifted to hospital with serious head and facial injuries, as well as a leg fracture. He was unconscious after the crash but regained consciousness before paramedics arrived.

Hwy. 31, which starts as Bank Street in Ottawa, was closed both ways between Liscumb Road and County Road 13 (Morewood Road) while police investigated.
