The driver of a tractor-trailer involved in a fiery early-morning crash on Highway 401 near Brockville, Ont., has been charged with careless driving after police say he was travelling west in the eastbound lanes.

Police said two tractor-trailers collided at about 1 a.m. Friday morning between the two Brockville exits from the Hwy. 401.

The other transport, which was travelling east, was fully engulfed in flames.

The westbound driver, a 34-year-old man from Quebec, was charged with careless driving.

Traffic slow in both directions

Both drivers were taken to hospital but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The collision snarled traffic in both directions on Friday.

All lanes were closed in both directions until 11:35 a.m., when one westbound lane reopened. By 4 p.m., both westbound lanes had reopened, but the eastbound lanes still have debris.

Detours have been set up at Highway 401 eastbound at Long Beach Drive.
