Katie Moreau's European summer vacation threw her into the spotlight in Ireland. Facebook
A Nova Scotia woman thrust into the spotlight after winning the heart of an Irishman on a plane says she’s flattered her "easy on the eyes" flight mate started a campaign in hopes of finding her.
Katie Moreau of Riverport says she was shocked to learn Jamie Kelly, the Galway man she sat next to on a Ryanair flight from Barcelona to Dublin, was so infatuated with her that he took to national Irish radio to find her.
"I was obviously very surprised and flattered," she wrote in an email to CBC News.
"When I was on the plane I talked to him incessantly because I had just been travelling for two months in Italy and Spain and it was just so nice to be around English speaking people, plus I'm a talker. We had lots in common plus he was very easy on the eyes."
Kelly said he noticed a pretty woman sitting in the row behind him and offered up the free seats in his row. They became separated as they went through customs and he couldn’t find her around the luggage carousel.
His friends started a social media campaign for her with the hashtag #loveatfirstflight.
"I originally looked for her Facebook and couldn't find her. And I went to the airline and they couldn't do anything for me. So then I went on the [Ray] D’Arcy show today and they couldn't find her," Kelly said on Friday.
Meanwhile, back home in Nova Scotia, Moreau's family and friends were frantically trying to reach the roaming romancer.
"I never thought I would ever see him again so what a surprise after a couple of pints to log onto Facebook to all these messages," Moreau said.
"I find it very humorous because all my friends back home are losing their heads over it."
She said she tried to look for "the handsome Irishman" with the "lovely eyes" after customs, but didn't want to seem too desperate.
"I suppose, in hindsight, looking a bit longer wouldn't seem as desperate in comparison," she said.
Kelly says since the media blitz he and Moreau have been chatting online and plan to meet next week.
