Two of Canada's top cross-country skiers raced to silver and bronze medals in Italy on Saturday.

Toronto's Len Valjas finished second and Alex Harvey of St-Ferreol-les-Neiges, Que., finished third in the 15-kilometre classic event in Val di Fiemme, Italy.

Kazakhstan's Alexey Poltoranin took gold with a time of 39:01.5, with Valjas just 0.06 seconds behind and Harvey 0.21 seconds back.

"It is unbelievable," Valjas said. "I just put my head down in that sprint to the finish and double poled as hard as I could. I thought Alex might have won and we'd go one-two when I crossed the line and looked over.

"This is just awesome though. To share a podium with a teammate is an unreal feeling. We are all pretty happy here."

Harvey was just as excited as his teammate about the podium finish at one of his favoured courses.

"I am happy to get on the podium and finish the Tour off with a podium feels great. I just love this course. I was fifth here two years ago, second last year and now third. It is a good feeling knowing the world championships are here later this year."

Fellow Canadian Ivan Babikov was eighth overall.

Three-time champion Dario Cologna of Switzerland took the overall Tour de Ski lead with an 11th place finish, 10.7 seconds behind the winner.

Cologna now holds a 6.5-second lead over Alexander Legkov of Russia, who was 17th.
