Calgary radio host suspended after Rider 'death' comment

A Calgary sports radio host has been suspended after saying on-air that he wished four Saskatchewan football players would die in a plane crash before a key game against Calgary this weekend.

Dean (Boomer) Molberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN has apologized and so has the station, saying it was a misguided attempt at humour.

The suspension was announced in a note on the station's website Friday.

The station is also offering to make a donation to the Saskatchewan Roughriders' charity of choice.

In 1956, four Roughriders were killed in a plane crash near Chilliwack, B.C.

This Sunday, the Roughriders will take on the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL's West Division semifinal.
