Police in Saskatoon are investigating after a 45-year-old man, who told police he was trying to break up a fight, was stabbed early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to St. Paul's Hospital at about 6 a.m. CST regarding a man being treated for non-life threatening stab wounds.

The victim was walking in the area of St. Paul's Hospital at about 3:40 a.m. CST when she saw a man and woman fighting on the sidewalk, police said.

According to police the victim told officers the man was sitting on top of the woman and punching her.

The victim confronted the man to stop the assault — police said it was during this altercation that the victim was stabbed, though he did not realized he was injured at first.

There is no word yet on the description of the suspect.
