PART 1 In the years after the second world war Canada's military bands recruited a large number of young musicians from Holland. But Nick de Vries, Herman Rombouts and Hans den Hartog weren't told they'd have to wear kilts and battle summer blackflies or winter temperatures of forty below. We reunite these three to hear the story of the Dutchmen who followed a band to Canada and made new lives here.
PART 2 One night a few days before Christmas 1954, a nine year old boy in an English village followed a Salvation Army band, captivated by the sound. The experience changed his life. Steve Wadhams tells his own story and also the story of the turbulent history and present dilemma of the Salvation Army in Canada.
