Part 1
Carolina Echeverria came to Canada from Chile in the 1980's fed up with violence and fear in a country run by the army. Since then a lot has changed. Carolina returns to family and friends and gets a tough course in "modern Chile 101". "Returning the stones"; Dan Misener takes a roadtrip to old graveyards and a twilight rendezvous with people who believe there's no way you can separate the past, the present and the future. "Sailing home"; Suzanne Ahearne crosses the Atlantic to the place where it all began. It's a real ship, but its cargo contains dreams. visions and memories of her father.
PART 2
For Andra McCartney retracing steps is not a metaphor for examining the past, it's the real thing. In her mid 40's she's re-learning to walk. Travis Schouten has PTSD, one of many soldiers returning from combat in Afghanistan who can't move on with their lives because they can't escape images of the past. For Corinna Hodgson moving on meant figuring out how to walk a couple of hundred steps, at night, from a Toronto subway station to her home.
