Journeys to Canada

Vasil Garvanliev was a child pop star in his native Macedonia. Now he's a promising young Canadian opera singer. Ann Shin was born in Canada; her journey here is a journey of the mind, a long, poetic quest for belonging. PART 2 "From Dixon to Dixon". Elena Rakitskaya was born on Dixon island in northern Siberia in the Russian high Arctic and to this day bears scars from the nuclear bomb testing there. Later, she moved to Moscow and became a successful fashion designer. Today she's a fashion designer in Toronto and she lives on Dixon Road!

Fathers, sons and daughters

A 10 year old boy wants to hunt with his dad, and he also wants answers to questions such as "does an animal willingly give up its life?" The education they gave him created a rift between Edward Lee and his Chinese born father and grandfather. After many years of silence, Edward finds a new understanding and respect for both of them. Randall Fox is the birth father, Ashley Foote is his son given up for adoption without his knowledge. After many years apart, father finds son and discovers they both have music in their blood. PART TWO "The silence between us". The father is the 'strong silent type', the daughter has never been able to break through that silence and "find the father I always wanted". Myfanwy Davies hopes a journey to Wales to her father's old family haunts will bring them closer together.

Jewish lives, jewish journeys (repeat)

A journey of escape from war and persecution brings a man with a world class voice to a Toronto synagogue; a woman travels to her home town in Germany to find a missing piece from her past; a young woman returns to a beach in Israel, hoping for healing and reconciliation; and a journey of inquiry which goes to the heart of jewish identity and survival. A young jewish man falls in love with a non-jew and for the first time in his life has to face the question, "how jewish am I? If he marries outside the faith is he contributing to the assimilation of jews and their eventual disappearance?
