Stories and sound

Pierre Gauthier says "it's all a question of attitude, be fresh in the face of the sound" and that creating with sound began after the first world war. Shoppers in downtown Montreal put on headphones, listen to sounds and comment on them. People listen to train sounds and comment. Sound separates; Andreas Kahre compares the sounds of his childhood in Germany with the sounds where he lives now. The sounds of home

"28 Lonsdale Road". Someone dies, a house is put on the market and sold. A family moves out and another moves in - and the sounds of a Toronto family home become richer and more complex. PART 2 What do you hear when you throw open the windows of your childhood home and allow memory to flood in? In a house deep in the Quebec woods, a woman who used to sing in a big city rock band now lives a more simple life. But is it a quieter life? It's early summer, you're at home sitting outside enjoying some peace and quiet when all of a sudden you hear.......

Growing old and the music of youth

Four seniors in Owen Sound Ontario meet on the phone to check in, chat, help each other out, have some laughs and sometimes sing. In St. John's Newfoundland, a pianist makes music with men twice his age at a veterans' retirement home - some can hardly speak but can still sing. Part 2 "Ce n'est pas la vie en rose"; in a nursing home near Montreal, Monsieur Potvin walks the halls with his accordian playing music which the residents remember from their youth. It gives comfort, pleasure and once brought an old lady out of a coma.
