Dream dinner guest
Thank you to everyone who entered and for helping us feed 100,000 families in need.
If only we had a big enough table to bring all your thoughtful, comical and inspiring suggestions together for one huge Live Right Now dinner! You submitted CBC favourites like Rick Mercer; Canadiana tributes like Chris Hatfield; fantastical guests like Dr. Seuss; creative ideas like yourself from the future and thoughtful ideas like inviting a homeless person into your home. But the ones that stood out the most were heartfelt wishes to dine with family. And so our dream dinner guest prize goes to ...
Our winner: Lynne Richard Moore
Her dream dinner guest: My mom's parents. They passed away quite tragically from drowning in 1957. I keep hearing such nice stories of my grandparents and how they molded my mom to be the woman she is today: a true treasure! Each time my mom does something crafty or bakes something funky I ask her, "Where did you learn that??" She responds with "My mom used to do it this way" or "My dad taught me this as a child." I learned a lot from my father's parents growing up but not knowing my maternal grandparents left me with so many questions. I would love to sit at a dinner table with the table littered with food from my grandma's recipes and see if she likes the way I made things. Hearing her suggestions would be amazing, I am sure she didn't burn stuff as much as my mom does. I would sit across from my grandfather and study his features, as he was a tall, rugged, slim man - and soak up his words of wisdom about how to live strong and on the right path. I would have him tell me about all the times he would punish my mom for being a bad girl. Relatives said it happened a lot, although my mom says she was an angel! And finally I would thank them for making my mom the way she is today: PERFECT!
Prize: $200 President's Choice grocery gift certificate and four coveted Live Right Now aprons!
We hope you join us for the 30x30 Nature Challenge!
Eating together with Chef Vikram Vij inspired CBC Live Right Now to ask the question: Who is your dream dinner guest?
Is it a celebrity, an athlete, a fictional character? Is it a relative you've never met or a local hero?
We'd like to hear from you. Live Right Now will select our favourite entry and reward one lucky person with a $200 President's Choice grocery gift certificate and four coveted Live Right Now aprons! Contest ends Monday, April 29 at 3 p.m ET.
Our goal: share 100,000 meals.
To help get you started, we asked a few celebrities who they'd love to be sitting at their dinner table. Here's a sample of what they had to say:
Who: Chris Hyndman, Steven and Chris
Dream dinner guest:
Fab dinner guest: Graham Norton, U.K. talk show comedian
Why: He is the funniest person I have ever seen.
What to serve: Vodka and soda ... with lime of course !
Who: Steven Sabados, Steven and Chris
Fab dinner guest: Adele - not because she is a famous singer - it's just because I think she is a really cool person. I think she would be a riot to hang out with.
What to serve: grilled veggie pasta with roasted tomatoes, and arugula salad with parmesan cookies ... I make it all the time.
Who: Theresa Albert, TV personality, nutritionist, author, foodie
Dream dinner guest:
If I had a time machine, I'd have the most amazing grilled cheese with Walt Disney. Walt's favourite meal was grilled cheese, but all he knew was "American cheese" and plain bread. What the heck is that? I'd show him how we rock them now with outstanding raw cheeses and imaginative fixin's. Then I would shut up and listen.
I'd beg him to share with me his secret for continually finding inspiration and making it happen. The man knew how to dream big and pull in the doers.
Like Walt, I never want to have a job. I want to have a mission that makes life an inspiring place to be for myself and anyone who wants to play along.
