227g (1/2 lb) extra lean ground beef

454 g (1 lb) extra lean ground turkey

250 mL (1 cup) bread crumbs

175 mL (¾ cup) flaked oat

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

375 mL (1-1/2 cups) low-sodium tomato sauce

1 egg, beaten

250 mL (1 cup) water

30 mL (2 tbsp) brown sugar

30 mL (2 tbsp) prepared mustard (any variety)

15 mL (1 tbsp) vinegar

2 mL (½ tsp) black pepper

2 mL (½ tsp) salt

Mix ground beef, ground turkey, bread crumbs, flaked oat, onion, egg, salt pepper, garlic and 1/2 cup of the tomato sauce. Shape into a loaf and place in a 9 X 13 pan.

Mix the remaining tomato sauce with the water, brown sugar, mustard and vinegar and pour over the loaf. Sprinkle with parsley.

Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 1 hour.

Baste the loaf with sauce at least twice while baking.
