Creamy Cinnamon Oatmeal

500 mL (2 cups) skim milk

375 mL (1 1/2 cups) water

4 mL (3/4 tsp) ground cinnamon

425 mL (1 1/2 cups) large flake oats

50 mL (1/4 cup) wheat germ

50 mL (1/4 cup) dried cranberries

25 mL (2 tbsp) chopped walnuts

Creamy Cinnamon Oatmeal

Here's a hot breakfast that's a classic rib-sticker, made even healthier with wheat germ. Change it up with fresh fruit toppings like berries or chopped apple or pear.

In large pot, bring milk, water and cinnamon to boil. Stir in rolled oats and wheat germ and return to boil. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring for about 8 minutes or until thickened. Stir in cranberries and walnuts.

Fruit option: You can also try other dried fruit like chopped dried apricots or dried blueberries or raisins to the oatmeal along with the nuts.

If there are nut allergies you can omit the walnuts but feel free to add other crunchy seeds instead like sunflower or pepita seeds. You can also add more dried cranberries or raisins instead of the walnuts.
