MP Parm Gill

Name: Parm Gill, Member of Parliament for Brampton-Springdale

I live in: Brampton, Ontario

#1 Health Goal: My personal goal is to lose weight. However, through our community challenge, in conjunction with CBC's Live Right Now initiative, my overarching goal is to inspire communities to live healthier lives.

Biggest Challenge: I find that with travel and an abundance of community events each week it is tough to always eat healthy. Most of these functions serve delicious food, which makes temptation a constant factor to overcome.

Biggest Accomplishment: Being able to stick to my goal and see results within the first two weeks. I believe my success is attributed to the incredible support I have received from friends, colleagues, family and others in the community.

I will continue to Live Right Now by: I will continue to make conscious decisions about what I eat. I feel that healthy eating is a challenge for many, but by making small changes in your routine you are able to realize significant benefits. More importantly, I will continue to partner with community members to inspire others. Through this initiative I have come to find that Brampton is home to some incredibly passionate people. It is vital to let others know you support them in their aspirations. We are trying to form a network within the community - a group that people can lean on during their journey for help and motivation.

Personal Tip for Canadians: Through this initiative I have come to learn that inspiration and motivation is everything. No one is alone in their journey to a healthier life. Take the City of Brampton for example. The passion for health is overflowing in our community. By focusing on supporting each other, Brampton's community members are now becoming active role models for our youth. This is something that is invaluable for the future.
