Garfield's Challenge: Work Out With Friends

Have you been keeping up with Garfield? As an enthusiastic supporter of Live Right Now, he's challenged all Canadians to take a weekly Endurance Test! Of course, there's no point in a weekly test unless we're doing something in between to take our fitness to the next level, so Garfield has been offering weekly tips:
Where would we be without a little help from our friends? We rely on our network of friends when we need some advice, a shoulder to cry on, or an ear to vent to. Friends can also be a tremendous source of inspiration, motivation and... accountability.
There are many times when we lack the motivation to get out for that run or walk, or make our way to the gym in the morning. That's why it's so important to create our own network of friends to help us (as we help them) maintain the health and fitness goals we've set for ourselves.
I have two friends that I work out with three times a week in the early mornings before we all go to work.
Sol Gregory and Aaron Knox are both resident plastic surgeons at Vancouver General Hospital. They both work incredibly hard and are challenged mentally, emotionally and physically every day.
We use our workouts together not only as a means of staying fit, but as a place to share ideas, seek advice and have a laugh. It's amazing how rich life becomes when you create that comradery through activity. And, in fact, I've found these sessions with my pals far more rewarding than just meeting friends for coffee.
My beautiful wife, Michelle, also challenges me to go outside my comfort zone at times (I'm really a big-city-kid at heart). We celebrated our 10th anniversary in Palm Springs a couple of years ago, and she arranged for a guide to lead us on a two-day hike through the Wonderland of Rock at Joshua Tree National Park. It was one of the most remarkable experiences we've ever had together, and something I never would have done, had it not been for her.
So my challenge to you this week is to create that connection with a friend, or a group of friends, and schedule an activity that you can do together.
