Doug Craig, Mayor of Cambridge

Name: Doug Craig, Mayor of Cambridge
I live in: I live in the City of Cambridge, a city that is a marvel of architectural and natural amenities with a very welcoming community.
#1 Health Goal: To take better care of myself by increasing my exercise and making changes to my diet. For example, it's been many years since I visited a fast food restaurant and this change has helped me make better dietary choices.
Biggest Challenge: Like most people, finding the time to exercise is a challenge for me.  I have incorporated exercise into my daily routine. Activities like walking my dog early in the morning, and taking the stairs to my office at City Hall all add up.
Biggest Accomplishment: I have been diagnosed with type-two diabetes and have worked very hard to adjust my diet. In addition to cutting out the obvious things like sugar, I have cut out food groups like bread. It's a hard thing for most Canadians to live without our daily bread, but one that I am proud to have successful reduced from my diet.
I will continue to Live Right Now by: Moving more and building in regular routines to increase my activity level. The CBC Live Right Now national competition is a wonderful way to inspire people to do more and increase their overall health.
Personal Tip for Canadians: The biggest tip I could share is that small things add up and make the big picture better. Daily habits like having a cup of coffee could be improved by eliminating the cream. Always look at the positive change with a view to doing even better!
