Budget Your Calories

For the month of June we are counting down 30 Days to Summer with registered dietitian Stefanie Senior. Each day she will reveal a new tip to help you reach your summer health goals. Join the conversation through Live Right Now's Facebook Event, "30 Days to Summer" and share your own tips and successes or post questions and feedback. We will enter your name into a draw for a free Skype nutrition consultation with Stefanie.

June 11th ... 20 days to summer...

Set a calorie budget. Whether your goal is to lose, gain or maintain your weight, you require a certain number of calories each day. You can determine your calorie needs based on your age, gender, weight, height, activity level and weight goals on both myfitnesspal.com and eatracker.ca. If your goal is weight loss, keep a food diary for a few days to determine your average daily intake.  Slowly decrease your calories over time until you are closer to your recommended intake (no more than a 500 calorie decrease to start).
