Brampton Wins 500 Spirit Points

Congratulations to Brampton, Ontario for winning 500 Spirit Points this month!

Spirit Points are awarded to a community who shows gumption and heart in their quest to become the Live Right Now Capital of Canada.

This month Brampton blew us away with a whirlwind of activity.

Brampton is unique because a group of passionate business owners, dubbed the 'Champions 4 Change' have banded together to move the initiative forward.

They started by creating a LRN group and have encouraged the community to post numerous pictures of activities and healthy meals, updates on gym workouts, videos and event a healthy recipe contest!

Founding member of the Champions 4 Change, Margaret Wallis Duffy, is thrilled with the news that Brampton has been awarded the spirit points.

"With every little success we get more empowered and excited. We feel like there's momentum building and it motivates us even more to continue to inspire others!"

They have also partnered with a member of parliament Parm Gill, who has launched a Healthy Community Challenge. A week ago his office created a Live Right Now Facebook group and invited more than 300 members.

"I feel first and foremost it's important to come together as a community to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle. I'm extremely happy and very proud [to win the spirit points]. The passion and inspiration that we have in Brampton is unbelievable!"

Gill has a personal goal to lose fifteen pounds in three months through exercise and cutting down on dessert. Within two weeks of his announcement, he has lost six pounds! He's also started a healthy lifestyle initiative within his office.

"My entire staff in Brampton and Ottawa are participating and setting their own goals.  We're eliminating junk food in the office and committed to getting to the gym regularly."

Of course Brampton is a big community with a big population and because the points are based on per capita - they have a lot of people to motivate. But we're confident Brampton that this group of leaders will give the rest of Canada a run for the title!

The winner of the Live Right Now Capital of Canada will be announced April 13th, and spirit points will be awarded once a month (the next announcements will be on February 29th and March 19th).

Keep the activity coming and your community could be the next winner!
