It's one of the biggest nights of the year for everyone in Canadian literature. The 2012 Scotiabank Giller Prize will be awarded tonight (October 30) and the gala is on CBC Television at 9pm (9.30 NT) and streaming live at CBC Books from 8pm (ET) - with an online chat starting at 5pm (ET). Celebrity presenters on hand to represent the books include Rick Mercer, Kim Cattrall, Allan Hawco, Measha Brueggergosman and Rosie MacLennan. Honouring the best Canadian fiction book of the year, the $50,000 prize will be handed out by host Jian Ghomeshi and founder Jack Rabinovitch. The so-called Giller Effect will kick in - a major sales boost - but not wanting to discriminate, you can get your hands on all five of the nominated books, no matter who scoops the prestigious nod.
