As far as online or mobile music goes, you know how much we love CBC Music. Not only are there many genres streams to listen to wherever you are, but you can also stream your favourite Canadian artists and check out profiles. Even with over 7,000,000 hours of music listened to by users, we always like to give you recommendations. So this week, we're listening to Cold Specks. You should too!
Al Spx, the 24-year-old Canadian born, U.K. transplanted songstress - who performs under the pseudonym Cold Specks - burst onto the music scene internationally late last year and shows no signs of stopping in 2012. Her vocals - rooted in the Deep South and described as 'Doom Soul' - turn heads, warm the musical soul and will instantly get you hooked. Cold Specks got her big break while appearing on the British music show Later... with Jools Holland and eventually signed with the label Arts & Crafts.
After releasing her much anticipated debut album I Predict a Graceful Expulsion, which you can stream in full on CBC Music, she is now on tour hitting up venues in Canada, the United States and all across Europe. On top of all of that, the album is one of this year's Polaris Music Prize short list nominees.
Back in January, Cold Specks appeared on George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight for her first North American performance. Check it out:
