Vote For Canada's New Championship Anthem

Could Arcade Fire's Ready to Start be a new "champthem" for Canadian athletes?

On The National last week, Nahlah Ayed looked at what it takes for a song to become a sports anthem, using Muse's song Survival - chosen for the Games as its "official anthem" - as an example. When you hear the term sports anthem, what pops into your head? Bill Conti's Theme from Rocky? Survivor's Eye of the Tiger? Queen's We are the Champions? There's one common theme here - none of the songs are Canadian.

Now, CBC Music has taken it upon itself to remedy that. It's time for you to help choose a sports anthem for Canada. Last week CBC Music asked for your suggestions, and now the most popular have been put together as a playlist on the site. Have a listen then vote for the song you think should be the new "champthem" for Canadian athletes - could it be Arcade Fire? Sloan? Shad? How about Chromeo or the Stills? What about Death From Above 1979's Blood On Our Hands? My personal choice involves a bad word, so you'll have to check out the list to see what I'm talking about...

After you have perused the playlist, you have until midnight on Tuesday (July 31) to vote for what will make the shortlist. The shortlist will then go online on Wednesday (Aug 1) morning, with the final top ten. On Friday (Aug 3), the top three songs will be awarded their medals...
