VIDEO: Lighting the Ed Mirvish Theatre Marquee

This morning (May 3) in downtown Toronto, David Mirvish - son of Honest Ed - and the cast of Bring it On: The Musical switched on the lights honouring David's late father at the new Ed Mirvish Theatre. Before doing so, David recalled when, as a ten year-old boy, his dad switched on the biggest illuminated sign seen in Toronto at the time - that of Honest Ed's at Bloor and Bathurst. The then mayor, Nathan Phillips, was there to help turn on the lights. When the time came to flip the switch, every light in the surrounding area subsequently blew... whoops! Today, David hoped for no such occurrence. Watch our video below to see what happened...


The first production at 'the Eddie' is Bring It On: The Musical, running until June 3rd. We spoke with some of the cast and David Mirvish at the launch about the theatre and CBC's upcoming show Over the Rainbow. Mirvish Productions will stage Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's The Wizard of Oz at 'the Eddie' and CBC will help in the search for Dorothy.
