Queen Elizabeth started the party early, marking her Diamond Jubilee with a massive pop extravaganza at Buckingham Palace, among other celebrations, last summer, but the 60th Anniversary of her coronation was this June 2.

And on that day in 1953, CBC was there.

(Watch the archival footage.)

Television was still new, and the idea of watching same-day footage of a monarch's coronation was unprecedented - never mind one who would be the first crowned "Queen of Canada."

A variety of CBC News features can give you a peek inside Queen Elizabeth's 60-year reign.

Find out how the CBC coverage of the coronation marked a first for the TV medium, and for more on the visual history of The Queen's reign, enjoy galleries of archival photos and this CBC interactive portrait which takes you through the images that mark her life and times. CBC News' comprehensive coverage of last year's Diamond Jubilee events, can also be found here.

But 60 years of rule means more than steadfastly representing her country and commonwealth.

She's also met a lot of celebrities - and for 60 years, there's been no greater thrill than an audience with The Queen.

Check out photos of some of the most recent - and most memorable - royal encounters.
