Peter Mansbridge on What Makes a Canadian

CBC News' chief correspondent knows a thing or two about Canada Day.

For the last 32 years, Peter Mansbridge has attended the celebrations on Parliament Hill and witnessed the sea of thousands of Canucks donning red and white.

As we get closer to Monday's big birthday, Mansbridge took some time to reflect on what defines Canadians.

It wasn't a simple task, and to find the answer, he drew on his experiences covering Canadians in different situations overseas - everything from the tsunami relief efforts in Southeast Asia, to the return of second world war veterans to the Netherlands, to those working in Afghanistan. Each story shared a common theme.

So what does it mean to be a Canadian, according to Peter Mansbridge? You'll have to watch his new video to find out:

You should also read "Canadian, eh?" - an essay from Inside the News with Peter Mansbridge on finding Canucks wherever you go across the globe.

CBC will be celebrating Canada Day in a big way. Be sure to watch a special broadcast live from Parliament Hill beginning at 11:30 am ET on Monday, July 1, featuring the nation's top musical acts.

CBC Live will be on the Hill in the middle of the action. Follow us @CBCLive for behind-the-scenes photos and videos!
