Maestro Fresh Wes Makes His Comeback on CBC Music

Sam Roberts, Kardinal Offishall, Measha Brueggergosman, Lights, k-os...

We could go on.

The new album from Maestro Fresh Wes, Orchestrated Noise -- out June 25 -- includes guest spots from just about anyone to ever receive a SOCAN grant, and then some.

So if a deluxe re-release is ever in the cards, we demand to hear one of his Mr. D co-stars do a verse. Maybe a Mr. D vs. Mr. D rap battle, sort of a musical sequel to Season 1's charity boxing match.

Maestro, or Wes Williams, if you prefer, has spent the last few years building his acting career on shows like the CBC comedy, after all.

(He's the other "Mr. D" -- alpha-teacher Mr. Dwyer to Gerry Dee's Mr. Duncan.)

(Left) Maestro Fresh Wes as Mr. D's Mr. Dwyer, (Right) Maestro Fresh Wes as Maestro Fresh Wes.

And 13 years have passed since his last full-length disc, 2000's Ever Since.

But you can't change the meaning of this Toronto artist's musical legacy. He made the best-selling Canadian hip-hop album of all time. (That would be 1989's Symphony in Effect, and as he told Canadian Press earlier this year, Orchestrated Noise is the "conceptual extension" of that game-changing record.)

And yeah, by the way, he was dubbed "Canada's Greatest Rapper Ever" by CBC Music this spring.

As Rich Kidd, who joins Maestro on Orchestrated Noise track "Gladiator," told CBC Music in May: "There is a reason you think you can rap in Canada. And this is the guy who started it."

That calls for some fanfare. Or a CBC Music album premiere, at the very least.

Starting now, you can stream Orchestrated Noise in its entirety at

It's free to enjoy until June 25, when the album officially arrives in stores. Listen while you can.
