Google Doodle Celebrates Mr. Dressup's Birthday

The tickle trunk is open! Well, for those of you who log onto Google Canada today, anyway. On what would have been Ernie Coombs' (aka Mr. Dressup) 85th birthday, the search engine is celebrating the CBC Kids Canadian television icon by making him, Casey, Finnegan and the tickle trunk their famous Google doodle. And it's causing quite the commotion in the Twitterverse, too, with 'Google' trending all across Canada.

After 29 years on the air as Mr. Dressup, Ernie retired in 1996 but the show remained on the CBC airwaves in reruns until they were discontinued in 2006. Here he is speaking about his career as one of the most beloved children's characters:

Ernie passed away in 2001, but his legacy lives on for the generations who grew up watching him. Here are some of Mr. Dressup's most memorable moments:
