CBC's own George Stroumboulopoulos, host of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, and one of the queens of Canadian comedy, Andrea Martin, will pair up to host the 32nd Genie Awards on March 8th. Honouring the best in Canadian film, the ceremony is live on CBC Television at 8pm (8.30 NT).
Andrea Martin said "I am thrilled to be hosting the Genies with George Stroumboulopoulos, one of Canada's most eligible bachelors..." Strombo countered, "the truth is, while I am happy to be a part of the Genies this year, I mostly agreed to do this because I thought Andrea was asking me on a date."
The Genies will be another star-studded extravaganza, and we'll be live streaming from the red carpet and backstage during the show, featuring nominees, guests, presenters and musicians performing at the event.
"This celebration of another tremendous year in Canadian film promises to be one of the most exciting cultural events of 2012, and CBC is both honoured and thrilled to be able to bring it to Canadians," said Kirstine Stewart, CBC's Executive Vice-President of English Services.
We were there as the nominations for the Genies were announced, and we spoke with Kevin Durand and Charlotte Sullivan of Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangter about their nominations.
Last year, two lucky winners got to go to the Genie Awards in Ottawa with George, and then were whisked to LA to enjoy Universal Studios... check out the video of their experience below:
