Cover Me Canada: Meet the Producers

Hawksley Workman, Gavin Brown, and Kuya Productions are some of the producers that have worked with the Cover Me Canada acts so far this season, and we here are sure you want to know a little bit more about them...

Hawksley Workman

Workman (also known as Ryan Corrigan) is a prolific singer-songwriter in his own right. He's recorded 11 full albums with his band, although some of them were never commercially released. Superfans will know that you can pick up three of them only at his live shows. The incredibly talented musician can play multiple instruments, and is obviously also a very talented record producer. Known for his speed (he says he never takes more than a day to produce a song), that makes him the perfect fit to be one of the Cover Me Canada producers.

This season he's worked on tracks with Whosarmy (Raise a Little Hell), Living in Red (Sk8er Boi), Melanie Morgan (Cuts Like a Knife), Ali Milner (Complicated and Insensitive) and the Simpson Brothers (Workin' for the Weekend).

Here's one of his own tunes to enjoy (he's the fiddling roadie, by the way):

Gavin Brown

Gavin Brown is pretty amazing to be honest with you. A ten time (10!) Juno Award winner, he's one of those guys you may not have heard of, but he has written some of the songs you love. He's worked with bands like Metric, Hoobastank, Sarah Harmer and even Jordan Knight's New Kids on the Block. He's credited with developing the careers of Billy Talent and The Midway State (who you can see in Vancouver at our CBC Live Kick Off to Culture Days) and as a musician, he's played with the likes of Jim Cuddy.

This season he's worked on tracks with Georgia Murray (You Oughtta Know), the Simpson Brothers (Perfect) and Whosarmy (American Woman).

Here's a track Gavin produced for Metric's 2010 record Fantasies:

Kuya Productions

The Kuya Brothers are Toronto based Hip Hop and R&B producers, they also work in New York and LA and have worked with Nelly among many others. They worked on his number one record Suit, which sold over three million copies and went on to garner a Grammy nomination.

Kuya Productions have worked with Warren Dean Flandez (Spinning Wheel and Nobody's Supposed to be Here) and G07 (Say it Right and Can't Stop)

You can listen to one of the songs the Kuya Brothers have produced for Nelly, below is In My Life:
