William Shatner, seen here hosting last year's Genie Awards on CBC, will host the 42nd Juno Awards

This morning, the host and nominees for the 42nd Juno Awards were announced. After the success of his hosting gig at last year's Genie Awards, William Shatner will take the reigns for the ceremony to be held on April 1st at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa - also home to the recent NHL All-Star Weekend - honouring the best of this year's Canadian music.

It's been another great year for for the music scene here, with critically acclaimed records from the likes of Feist, Braids and The Weeknd (who was shown no love at the Junos without a single nod), and huge holiday records from worldwide superstars Michael Bublé and Justin Bieber. On hand to help announce the nominees were Deadmau5, last year's New Artist of the Year Meaghan Smith and Cuff the Duke. Also in attendance at the announcement were Sloan, Diamond Rings, Rural Alberta Advantage, Mia Martina, JRDN and Alyssa Reid.

Up for five awards is Leslie Feist, while City and Colour (aka Dallas Green), NickelbackHedley, Drake and Dan Mangan also stand a good chance of going home happy on the night with four nominations. There are three nods for Michael Bublé and Deadmau5, while Justin Bieber picked up two.

Performances at this year's ceremony will include Nickelback, City and Colour, Feist, Hedley and Deadmau5. Hall of Fame inductees Blue Rodeo will also take the stage, with Sarah McLachlan.

You can still watch William Shatner host last year's Genie Awards, and enjoy some of the behind the scenes frolics...
