CBC Music Searches for Canada's Best New Artist

The hunt for Canada's Next Great Musical Act is on. CBC Music and CBC Radio One has opened their Searchlight contest and are calling all musicians to enter. The competition allows artists to share their talent with fans in their community and music lovers across the country, all while vying for the title and some awesome prizes.

Those who enter need to sign up for a CBC Music artist page (don't worry, it's free - and a great way to promote yourself) and upload an original song that they've written and performed. Musicians will go head-to-head with other acts from their region (decided by participating CBC stations), so make sure you choose the entry city nearest you.

Then, it's up to online votes to determine which act makes it out of their region. The top winners of each area will go up against each other in sudden death voting (once again online) and the final act left standing claims the title and the prize.

What exactly does Canada's Next Great Musical Act win? Well, the grand prize includes $20,000 worth of Yahama musical equipment, a trip to Toronto for an audio/video recording session with CBC Music and a special headlining show.

If you or your band want a chance at a big break, then enter the Searchlight contest now. The deadline for entries is February 15 and voting begins February 18.

For more information, stay connected with the Searchlight web page.
