A host of CBC's funniest minds are heading to Montreal for the Just For Laughs festival - running from today (July 23) until July 31. There they'll join some of the world's biggest comedy stars like Aziz Ansari, Bill Hader, Chelsea Handler, Jim Gaffigan and Joel McHale. As well as attracting the big names that are all over your television sets and movie screens, the Just For Laughs festival also brings in some of the most revered comedic talents like Dave Gorman, Adam Hills, Jim Jefferies and Danny Bhoy. Oh, and The Muppets will be there. Yes, these Muppets.
CBC's hit comedy Mr. D is most certainly well represented - four of the show's stars, including Gerry Dee himself, will be performing at the festival. If you're in Montreal or heading there for the festival, here are the CBC names you don't want to miss:
Despite his three letter surname, Gerry Dee has been a huge name on the Canadian comedy stage for a number of years now. Honoured as the Best Male Comic at the 2008 Canadian Comedy Awards, the star of Mr. D will take part in Howie Mandel's Gala on Saturday, July 28.
Mark Forward's an established name on the Toronto comedy scene, and his role as Mr. Leung in Mr. D has him gaining new fans every week. There are many Canadians itching to be on the same path as Mark, and on Friday (July 27) he'll host the Homegrown Comic Competition. He's also been invited to perform at Community star Joel McHale's Gala on Saturday (28).
One more - and not the last - star of Mr. D in Montreal, Mark Little's going to be working up a sweat with the shows he's taking part in. They include Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader's Gala and a taping of CBC's The Debaters, with your host Steve Patterson...
An hilarious stand-up comic in his own right, Steve's also the host of one of CBC's most popular radio shows: The Debaters. At 2pm, Saturday (July 28) at L'Astral, there will be a bumper taping of the show. It's going to be a treat as twelve comedians - including Iliza Shlesinger and Debaters favourite Sean Cullen - will battle it out debating some hot topics.
Another star of CBC's Mr. D hits the Montreal stage. Darrin Rose is an award winning screenwriter as well as an acclaimed stand-up. He'll be taking part in John Pinette's Gala on Wednesday night, July 25.
You may not know his name (yet) but you'll probably know his face. Regular viewers of George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, for example, will have seen Fraser on the show on multiple occasions. When he's not performing stand up in and around Toronto, Fraser's day job is as part of Strombo's writing staff. You may have seen him pitching to directors and an A-list movie star, or filling in for George when they attempted George Stroumboulopoulos This Morning. Fraser will be performing during Thursday's (July 26) Talk of the Fest show.
With so many big names hosting galas this year, you might be wondering where you can see them? Well, they'll be coming to CBC in the future. Right now, you can go back and watch last year's Just For Laughs galas online at the CBC player. Check out some teasers:
