Canada Reads: These 40 Books Could Change Our Country

Yes, we know there are only 10 books in this picture. For all 40 Canada Reads selections for 2014 visit their website. --Canada Reads

Canada Reads is on to its next round. The 2014 competition announced its long list of 40 novels today on Q, and the full list is now up on the competition's website.

Consider that Top 40 your new bookstore shopping list. Or just check to see whether your suggestions made it through.

Adrienne Clarkson, Tom Allen and Terry Fallis got their picks, Ron MacLean and Jann Arden didn't.

Whatever your luck, each of the 40 titles share the same theme. They're all books that have the power to change our country. Certain Canadians believe that to be true, at any rate, and when the Top 10 finalists are revealed November 12 on Q, 10 notable personalities will defend that opinion on CBC's Canada Reads.

Until then, we've all got some catch up to do. Get more on this year's novels, including a printable list of the Top 40, at the Canada Reads website, where you can also cast your vote for the Top 10.
