32nd Annual Genie Awards Winners And Highlights

Well folks, it's all said and done. The 32nd Annual Genies Awards is a wrap and results are in. Without further ado, here are tonight's winners and highlight moments!

The Big Winners

The big winner of the night was Philippe Falardeau's Monsieur Lazhar, taking home the award for Best Picture. The film also took Best Director for Falardeau, Best Actor for Fellag and Best Supporting Actress for the cute as a button, 11 year-old, Sophie Nelisse

David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, also went home with a few Genies. Viggo Mortensen won for Best Supporting Actor, and celebrated by showing off a Montreal Canadiens flag, much to the delight of host and fellow Habs fanatic, George Stroumboulopoulos. The film also took home awards for Music and Art Direction.

Andrea Martin Jokes

Andrea Martin graciously took the blunt end of many jokes on Genies night.  The comedian was supposed take on co-hosting duties, but had to bail due to acting obligations in Los Angeles.  Luckily for us, the Canadian Queen of Comedy clearly had some time to make a hilarious video, poking fun at her own absence.  The bit included some of our favourite CBC personalities including Peter Mansbridge and Steven and Chris (with Chris hilariously donning a dress), who were approached about replacing Martin, but no one seemed to fit the part, leaving poor George all on his lonesome.

Name Pronunciation

Living in a bilingual country can lead to difficulties, especially (or so it seems) when it comes to name pronunciation. Goon star Kim Coates had a bit of comical earnestness, when he admitted during the pre-show awards that he might pronounce the nominees "beautiful names" incorrectly. Coates humbly struggled through the pronunciations, but got through his presenter duties with flying colours.

The CBC Live Lounge

Even though everyone was at the Genies to celebrate the winners and nominees, it seemed that all the real fun was going on in the CBC Live Lounge. It was there that our hosts, Jamey Ordolis and Eli Glasner, shared a candid cocktail with many celebs, including Viggo Mortensen, Adam Beach, and the hilarious Tyler Labine (who definitely stole the show with his never-ending energy).

Stacey McKenzie and Lauren Hammersley

We knew we got these two women to host our red carpet for good reason.  Stacey McKenzie was on fire tonight. The beautiful ball of energy seemed to be in heaven while working the red carpet. She got kissed by Viggo (twice!), talked fashion with David Cronenberg, and could not help but gush at all of the "hot guys" that approached her podium. Mr. D's Lauren Hammersley was equally as charming, dropping hilarious one-liners whenever she could.  She's a pretty face that can roll with the best of them. You go girl!
