Robertson's work with Bob Dylan and The Band
transformed the face of American music from its Southern blues/rock
roots into something called electric music. From his first
gigs with Ronnie Hawkins in the '50s to the legendary days
of Bob Dylan and the Basement Tapes, Robertson had played
an integral part in the development of rock music.
Throughout his varied career, he has managed to defy definition
and labels while transcending the normal boundaries of music.
In 1994, Robertson reached into his Mohawk roots to work with
native artists Kashtin and Ulali on the soundtrack for the
television documentary The Native Americans. In addition to
songwriting, Robertson has done extensive soundtrack work
for film in the last 20 years (Raging Bull, Casino, Any Given
Sunday) - developing a reputation as an expert in source music.
Today, Robertson is a creative executive at Dreamworks Records,
developing new musical talent for the label, including Canadian
singer/songwriter Nelly Furtado (featured in the documentary).
Original Air Date - January 9, 2001
