With the participation of family, friends and Reitman himself, The Making of Ivan Reitman takes a behind-the-scenes look at his awe-inspiring journey from Czech refugee to Hollywood movie mogul. Archival film footage, including home movies of Reitman with his family, help to unveil the origins of his individual storytelling genius; while members of his "film family," a group of close-knit colleagues that includes Arnold Schwarzenegger, discuss Reitman the director and the loyal friend.

Reitman's incredible story began with a hair-raising escape from Communist-occupied Czechoslovakia when he was only a toddler. His parents, survivors of both the Nazi holocaust and Czech Communism, imprinted on their son a sense of optimism and deep love of family.

Reitman's filmmaking career began when he sold his early short student film Orientation to 20th Century Fox. Hooked on the thrill of seeing theatre audiences laugh at his work, he began to consider a future as a filmmaker. Despite his phenomenal success thus far, Reitman insists that his finest films are yet to come.
