Preston Manning

Preston as a young preacher
|
The documentary traces Manning's early childhood
in Alberta under the influence of his father, former Alberta
Premier and radio minister Ernest
C. Manning; his university days; his marriage to Sandra
Beavis; the founding of the Reform Party; and his role as
Leader of the Opposition. Life and Times of Preston Manning
profiles the man beyond his much criticized ‘eastern
Canada makeover’ – a father, a husband, a cancer
survivor and a citizen.

Preston and Sandra Manning
“This is a story of where Manning comes from, his prairie
populist roots, and how he changed the Canadian political
scene forever – with insight into his patriotism, his
pride in being a Westerner, his strong personal ethics, and
his vision of a ‘new Canada’,” says producer
Bette Thompson.
"Manning is not at all what I expected
- he’s smart, funny, completely sincere. I found him
to be a fascinating, thoroughly engaging, absolutely honest
and down-to-earth person, ” says writer/director/narrator
Jerry Thompson.
