But fate would intervene once again when a
judging error ruined her chance for a gold medal. Sixteen
months later, the International Olympic Committee acknowledged
the judging mistake and granted Fréchette the gold
medal she deserved. Against All Odds: The Life and
Times of Sylvie Fréchette is an intimate portrait
of Canada's gutsy synchronized swimming star.
Against All Odds: The Life and Times of Sylvie Fréchette
goes behind the scenes with Fréchette to Las Vegas,
where she stars in Cirque du Soleil's "O" Show - a revival
of the old Hollywood tradition of water performances - and
where she has also found new love. The documentary also
follows Frechette to Biloxi, Mississippi, where she coaches
Cirque du Soleil swimmers in a premiere performance despite
struggling with a serious knee injury; to Toronto, where she
is inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame; and to
Montreal, to visit longtime coach Julie Sauve, who helped
Fréchette become Canadian junior champion at 14, then
took her all the way to the Olympics.
Against All Odds includes Olympic film footage and features
the first interview ever with Brazilian Olympic judge Ana
Maria da Silveira, as well as interviews with Frechette's
boyfriend, Pascal Van Strydonck, Sylvain Lake's sister and
Fréchette's former agent, Daniel Lamarre, among others.
