The program delves into the darker
moments Terry experienced on his journey, the fights he had
with fundraisers, and the ways in which his emotions spilled
out before the public. What emerges is the profile of
a driven, complex and inspirational young man.
When Terry Fox had to end the "Marathon of Hope" outside
Thunder Bay, Ontario, he was two thirds of the way through
his journey. With him through most of the run was his
younger brother, Darrell Fox. In an emotionally charged
scene, Darrell, now the National Director of the Terry Fox
Foundation, returns to Thunder Bay with his wife and two young
children to visit the Terry Fox Monument, erected near the
site where Terry ended his run. "It's exactly the way
I remember Terry," says Darrell, "larger than life."
Before he died, Terry's exploits raised more than $24 million
for cancer research, and inspired the annual Terry Fox Run.
To date, the run has raised more than $340 million.
Original Air Date - October 12, 1998
